Holding land for our community
Llangenny Land C.I.C is a community interest company for the land around Llangenny, in the Vale of Grwyney.
We own a strip of riverside ground on the bank of the Grwyne Fawr, at the centre of the village. It is held for the benefit of the community, and it is not going anywhere.
This is a holding page. There will be a proper site once there is more to say.
The land we hold
Our land is riverside ground on the east bank of the Grwyne Fawr, running north from Llangenny Bridge, opposite the church and the village. It is pasture and broadleaf woodland, held freehold under a single title at HM Land Registry.
It was bought for the community on 4 February 2022. The company did not exist yet, so in the meantime the land was held by trustees on the community's behalf. Llangenny Land C.I.C was incorporated in July 2023, the land was transferred into the company's name, and that transfer was completed at the Land Registry on 19 July 2024. It has been held for this community throughout, and the asset lock now keeps it that way.
What we are setting out to do
-
Community land ownership
Acquiring and holding land in and around Llangenny, so that decisions about it are taken here, by the people who live alongside it.
-
Nature and habitat restoration
Riverbank, hedgerow, wet meadow and woodland — restoring habitat along the Grwyne Fawr and on the ground that drains into it.
-
Public access and recreation
Keeping paths open and green space genuinely available to local people: free, all year, and not dependent on anyone's goodwill.
About the company
A community interest company is a limited company whose assets and profits are locked to community benefit. They cannot be paid out to shareholders, and if the company is ever wound up the assets must pass to another asset-locked body. That is the point of the structure, and it is why we chose it.
